What Prolific actually pays, from the record

The verdict

A published $8/hr floor, $12 recommended — and a year-long community log averaging about $15/hr.

Prolific is the only survey-and-studies platform in this census because it is the only one with a published, enforced pay floor: researchers must pay at least $8 an hour, with $12 recommended. The floor is set on the researcher's side, so the rate on a study is the rate you get.

What does that mean across a year? One community log in r/beermoney's records doc: $1,069 earned over 71 hours on the site — about $15 an hour — with the honest note that availability, not rate, is the limit. Studies appear when researchers post them; a good profile sees more.

Compare the penny apps on the Legit shelf, where the rate is deliberately unprintable. A floor you can read is the entire difference between a hustle and a slot machine.

The math, shown

  • Published floor: $8/hr · recommended $12/hr
  • Community log: $1,069 ÷ 71 hrs ≈ $15/hr
  • Limit: study supply, not the rate
