Wyzant's 25% buys students, not a wage cut

The verdict

Students Wyzant finds cost 25% of your rate; students you bring cost 0%. Both numbers are strategy.

Wyzant's published split has not changed since 2019: 25% of your hourly rate on students the platform finds, 100% kept on students you refer yourself. Set a $60 rate and the found student pays you $45 an hour; your own student pays $60.

The beginner mistake is reading 25% as theft. An empty hour pays $0; a found hour pays $45. Early on, Wyzant is a marketing channel that also handles booking and payment. The real mistake is never graduating your regulars to your own list.

Set your rate from the net. If the hour must be worth $45, the rate on found students is $60 — not $45.

The math, shown

  • $60 rate, found student → $45/hr
  • $60 rate, your student → $60/hr
  • Need $45? Rate = 45 ÷ 0.75 = $60
