Is Instacart shopping worth it? Its real pay, after the fees nobody lists
Partial — your numbersPARTIAL — this page runs on your numbers
Instacart shopping publishes a pay model, never what you net per total hour in your city — and no truthful per-city dataset exists. This checker takes your logged numbers; any national band shown is labeled with its source and is a sanity rail, never a promise.
Labeled national band: $12.21 gross per active hour — Gridwise 2025 national medians (100k+ drivers) — gross per active hour. Gross, national, per active hour: a rail to sanity-check your log against, never a promise and never your city.
Instacart pays by the batch, and the batch pays by your feet: a 40-item order at a store you don't know is a different wage from a 12-item order at your own supermarket. PARTIAL by design — the engine needs your batch log, because your speed is the number nobody can publish.
The part the poster skips: Gridwise's 2025 national median is $12.21 per active hour, gross — and 'active' starts when you accept, not when you park, hunt for oat milk, and queue. Store time is the hidden denominator.
What Instacart shopping asks of you
The requirements
- Car: your own car is required
- Published startup cost: $0
- Body: standing and walking
- Place: out in your area
Week one, in short
Day 1: shop only stores you already know. Learning a store's aisles on a paid batch is the slowest wage in the app.
The full first-week plan — day blocks, the shape of the week, and the quit signal — is in the Fit & Real Pay Pack.
The fee schedule, in the open
| Fee / rule | What it is | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Pay model | Batch pay per order (items, distance, difficulty) + tips; heavy/order extras vary | Instacart shopper pages |
| Why this page is PARTIAL | Instacart publishes batch mechanics, not your net. Your shopping speed is the variable no platform can print — so this engine runs on your batches and your clock. | FitSideHustle method |
